- The Yankees won their fifth straight game today, beating the Tigers 9-0 and pushing their league-best record to 16-5. Joe DiMaggio continues to sizzle, hitting three doubles en route to a 4-5 day with four RBI. Starter Lefty Gomez was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game shut out and allowing only four hits. Lefty Gomez (Yankees) - The Indians won with another walk-off today, this time from left fielder Jeff Heath. His two-out single in the bottom of the 9 th gave the Indians a 6-5 win over the Senators.
