-           Yankees first baseman Joe Gordon had a big day in Boston, driving in five runs on a home run and a double.  The Yankees stifled the Red Sox, winning the game 8-0. Joe Gordon (Yankees) -           It was an incredible pitcher’s duel today in Chicago, as it took 19 innings to decide a 2-1 Tigers victory.  Neither starter got a decision in this one, but they were both superb.  Tigers starter went nine innings, giving up one run on five hits and striking out seven.  White Sox starter Ted Lyons lasted 12 innings, allowing only one run on nine hits and striking out five.  The game wasn’t decided until the 19 th inning, when Tigers catcher Birdie Tebbetts hit a triple in the top of the inning and was the driven in on a groundout.  An instant classic at Comiskey Park.   -           The Cincinnati Reds won their sixth straight game today to move one game above .500.   Starter Paul Derringer, who has pitched great all season despite his win-loss record, was superb again today, going the distance and allowing one run on five hits.   Frank McCormick provided the offense, going 2-4 with two RBI. Paul Derringer (Reds) -           Boston Braves starter Manny Salvo pitched a gem in the second game of a doubleheader today at the Polo Grounds.  After the Giants took the first game of the day, Salvo came back and threw a complete game shutout.  The win moves Salvo to 3-3 on the year.   -           Only one game today, but it had a pair of outstanding performances.   Cleveland left fielder Gee Walker had two home run game today in St. Louis as the Indians crushed the Browns.   Walker finished the day 4-5, with two home runs and five RBI, while scoring four time himself.   Starter Bob Feller was also superb, going the distance and striking out six while allowing four hits.
