Joe DiMaggio (Yankees) -           Not to be outdone, Joe's little brother Dom had a day that ballplayers dream of today in St. Louis for a doubleheader.  In the day’s first game, the Red Sox outlasted the Browns in 12 innings to win 12-8.  In that game, DiMaggio went a sizzling 5-6 with four RBI and hit for the cycle – the first and only cycle so far this season in the big leagues!  Then, for an encore in the second game, the “Little Professor” hit an inside-the-park home run and finished that game 4-5 with three RBI.  The Red Sox won the second game as well, bringing their current win streak to four games, and keeping them within distance...

Dizzy Trout (Tigers) -           The Dodgers throttled the St. Louis Cardinals today at Ebbets Field, but it initially looked like it was going to be a nailbiter between starters Whit Wyatt and Mort Cooper.  The game was scoreless into the 6 th inning, when Dixie Walker opened things up for the Dodgers with a solo home run (#2 on the year).  Whit Wyatt then helped his own cause later in the 6 th , hitting a two-out single to drive in the second run of the game.  Pete Reiser truly blew things open that same inning with a three-run home run, to push the Dodger lead to 7-0.  That was more than Wyatt needed, as he...
