June 10, 1941

-          They Yankees went home run crazy today at Comiskey Park, blasted four homers within the first three innings of the game – two of them coming from the red hot Joe DiMaggio.  After going 3-5 today, DiMaggio improved his batting average to .402 (trailing only Ted Williams), increased his MLB-leading RBI total to 58 after driving three against the White Sox, and brought his season home run total up to eight.

-          A classic matchup between the Dodgers and the Pirates took place today at Ebbets Field.  With the Dodgers up 3-2 in the top of the 9th inning, Pirates centerfielder Vince DiMaggio smacked his X home run of the season with a solo shot to tie the game.  In the bottom of the 9th, however, Dodgers slugger Dolph Camilli ended things with a walk-off, three-run home run.  With the win, the Dodgers pulled into a top atop the National League standings, pending the Reds result later in the day.

-          What a pitcher’s duel today in Boston between the Reds and the Braves.  Reds starter Johnny Vander Meer was sensation, striking out 13 batters on the day and allowing two runs (only one of which was earned).  This was the second time this season that Vander Meer struck out 13 or more batters in a game.  Unfortunately for Cincinnati, Braves starter Many Salvo was just as good, going the distance and giving up only one run.  Boston managed to steal the win with a run in the bottom of the 9th off a Johnny Cooney double.  The Reds have now lost three straight and have fallen a half-game behind the Brooklyn Dodgers to top the NL standings.

-          The Chicago Cubs destroyed the New York Giants today and Cubs first baseman Hank Leiber continued his recent tear, going 2-5 with a grand slam and six RBI.  The Cubs batter the Giants by a score of 10-1.  Leiber now has four home runs in the first week and a half of June.

 Yes, I keep starting projects then jumping ships to new ones - what can I say, I have ADD in staying focused on one project.  At the moment, I've been lured back to PC Replay Baseball, which to me is a near perfect implementation of the fantastic cards & dice game Replay Baseball.  My initial plan was to use a thread on the Delphi Forums that I created to post daily and weekly (in replay terms) updates, as I thought that might be quicker and easier than maintaining the blog.  The Delphi Forums, however, are not the most user friendly, so I am going to continue posting their while also linking to the full posts on this blog, which will allow followers to more easily read the screenshots and updates.  So, with that, please follow along as we relive perhaps the most iconic of baseball seasons!

  Highlights of today's action: - Dodgers starter Kirby Higbe took a no-hitter into the 9 th inning in Brooklyn and was able to get the first batter in the inning.  He then gave up a bloop single, however, to break up the no-hit bid.  Regardless,  he won a 5-0 shutout of the Giants, striking out four and giving up no walks. Kirby Higbe (Dodgers) -  Game in Cincinnati between the Reds and the Cardinals is easily the game of the young season.   Both starters went nine innings – Reds’ starter Johnny Vander Meer walking four and striking out nine, while allowing one earned run; Cardinals’ starter Mort Cooper walked three, struck out six, and ultimately allowed two earned runs.   The Cardinals lead 1-0 in the bottom of the 9 th , with two outs and running on first, when pinch hitter Hank Sauer roped a double to tie the game.   The Cardinals came back and scored a run in the top of the 10 th , but the Reds came back again in the bottom of the inning fo...

New Project: 1930 NPIII/Skeetersoft Full Season Replay

  Yes, I've started a few replays in the short time I've been into baseball sims, only to get sidetracked by a different season/game and hope to something else.  I've loved Skeetersoft since I started playing the 1929 season last year, but then hopped around to try a few other games and had been playing a lot of PC Replay Baseball, which I also think is fantastic.  But...something recently gave me the itch to try another season of NPIII and after starting an interesting book called "Breaking the Slump" by Charles Alexander about baseball during the Depression, I figured why not start right at the beginning of the 1930s.  I purchased the 1930 season and have been off and running.  As I said, there are other sims I really like - particularly Replay PC - but, I've yet to play anything that feels as smooth, and is this simple with still feeling like baseball like NPIII/Skeetersoft.  So, I'm going to barrel forward with this replay.
