April 23, 1949: St. Louis Browns vs. Chicago White Sox

Paul Lehner hit his second home run of the year to power the Browns past the White Sox today in Chicago.  The Browns continue the fight to get back to .500, moving to 2-3.  The White Sox are also now 2-3. Paul Lehner (Browns)

April 23, 1949: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Washington Senators

A's starter Dick Fowler delivered his second stellar pitching performance of the young season, going the distance and allowing only a single run.  The A's cruised to a 6-1 win, moving to 3-3 on the year.  With the loss, the Senators fall to 2-4. Dick Fowler (Athletics)  

April 23, 1949: Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians

What a game today in Cleveland!  Tigers starter Hal Newhouser was cruising and appeared on the way to his second win on the season, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th.  But with two on and two out, Ken Keltner stepped up and belted his second home run of the season, giving his team the 4-3 victory and ultimately their fourth win on the season (now 4-1).  With the heartbreaking loss, the Tigers fall to 2-3. April 23, 1949: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

It was a longball party at Fenway Park today, with Vern Stephens, Dom DiMaggio, and Sam Mele all hitting home runs to help the Red Sox avenge the previous day's bludgeoning by the Yankees.  Today, the Sox won big to move to 4-1 on the year.  The Yankees are now 2-3. Vern Stephens (Red Sox)
