April 23, 1949: Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians

What a game today in Cleveland!  Tigers starter Hal Newhouser was cruising and appeared on the way to his second win on the season, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th.  But with two on and two out, Ken Keltner stepped up and belted his second home run of the season, giving his team the 4-3 victory and ultimately their fourth win on the season (now 4-1).  With the heartbreaking loss, the Tigers fall to 2-3.

  Three games today, two of them really-well played, while the White Sox-Senators was a bit of a runaway.  Today finally saw the Cardinals get their first win of the season, in a game where neither starter went particularly deep.  The Cubs lost their first game of the year but will certainly take a 4-1 start.  The Game of the Day, though, featured a matchup of two star starting pitchers.
