- The Cleveland Indians took a 5-3 win today in the Bronx to dethrone the Yankees from first place in the American League. Starter Bob Feller went 7.2 innings, striking out eight and allowing three runs. The offensive star was third baseman Ken Keltner, who hit his AL-leading sixth home run of the year and drove in three runs. The Indians have now won five straight and lead the Yankees by a half game. Then Athletics’ right fielder Wally Moses responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run of his own. The Athletics ultimately won 11-4 after some big late innings.
