May 13, 1941 (Replay Baseball)

  -           The Cleveland Indians took a 5-3 win today in the Bronx to dethrone the Yankees from first place in the American League.   Starter Bob Feller went 7.2 innings, striking out eight and allowing three runs.   The offensive star was third baseman Ken Keltner, who hit his AL-leading sixth home run of the year and drove in three runs.   The Indians have now won five straight and lead the Yankees by a half game. Ken Keltner (Indians) -           Harlond Clift hit his major league-leading seventh home run in the top of the of the 7 th inning to break a 4-4 tie.  Then Athletics’ right fielder Wally Moses responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run of his own.  The Athletics ultimately won 11-4 after some big late innings.  A’s centerfielder Sam Chapman was the day’s star, going a perfect 4-4 with a home run and four RBI. -           “The Kid” had a big day in Boston.   Red Sox left fielder Ted Williams went a perfect 3-3, with two walks, while belting his fifth home run of the season and driving in two runs.   The Red Sox beat the first-place Yankees 12-7. Ted Williams (Red Sox)
