May 13, 1941 (Replay Baseball)
- The Cleveland Indians took a 5-3 win today in the Bronx to dethrone the Yankees from first place in the American League. Starter Bob Feller went 7.2 innings, striking out eight and allowing three runs. The offensive star was third baseman Ken Keltner, who hit his AL-leading sixth home run of the year and drove in three runs. The Indians have now won five straight and lead the Yankees by a half game.

Harlond Clift hit his major league-leading
seventh home run in the top of the of the 7th inning to break a 4-4
tie. Then Athletics’ right fielder Wally
Moses responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run of his own. The Athletics ultimately won 11-4 after some
big late innings. A’s centerfielder Sam
Chapman was the day’s star, going a perfect 4-4 with a home run and four RBI.

A triple play in the top of the 9th
inning by the Cincinnati Reds kept their game with the Dodgers tied 7-7! The game then moved into extra innings where
the it was decided in the bottom of the 11th inning when a Frank
McCormick single drove in Jimmy Ripple from second base to win the game.

A great pitcher’s duel at Wrigley today, as both
starters pitched into extra innings. The
game was ultimately won by a walk-off double by Cubs first baseman to get the
2-1 win over the Boston Braves. Cubs
starter Vern Olsen went 10 full innings, giving up one run on seven hits and
picked up the win. Braves starter Jim
Tobin was also great, pitching 9.2 innings but taking the loss on giving up two
runs and six hits.
