April 21, 1949: Washington Senators vs. New York Yankees

The Senators exploded for seven runs in the 5th inning, including a two-run homer from first baseman Eddie Robinson, to seal a win in the Bronx. Washington gets back to .500 with the win (2-2), while they Yanks now sit at 1-2 to open the season. Eddie Robinson (Senators)

April 20, 1949: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs

Pirates starter Murry Dickson did it all today - not only did he throw a complete game shutout, he also drove in the only two runs of the game, securing himself and Pittsburgh the 2-0 win. Murry Dickson (Pirates)

Red Sox starter Ellis Kinder went on the road and completely shut down the Athletics.  Kinder pitched a complete game shutout, striking out five along the way.  His best effort was needed, as the Red Sox only put one run on the board, but it was enough for the win. Ellis Kinder (Red Sox)

 The White Sox put two across in the top of the 9th inning to steal a 5-4 win in Detroit.  The White Sox and Tigers now both stand at 1-1 on the season.

April 20, 1949: Washington Senators vs. New York Yankees

Yankees shortstop Phil Rizzuto went 2-4, knocking in two runs and scoring two himself, to lead the Yanks to victory.  Yankees had to hold of a late Senators charge but were able to do so. Yankees move to 1-1 on the young season, while the Senators fall to 1-2. Phil Rizzuto (Yankees)
