June 12, 1941 (Replay Baseball)

  June 12, 1941 -           The Yankees beat the White Sox 7-2 today in Chicago, as Yankees starter Spud Chandler improved to an impressive 7-0 on the season.   Slugger Joe DiMaggio also stayed hot, going 3-5 and keeping his batting average above .400. Joe DiMaggio (Yankees) -           Not to be outdone, Joe's little brother Dom had a day that ballplayers dream of today in St. Louis for a doubleheader.  In the day’s first game, the Red Sox outlasted the Browns in 12 innings to win 12-8.  In that game, DiMaggio went a sizzling 5-6 with four RBI and hit for the cycle – the first and only cycle so far this season in the big leagues!  Then, for an encore in the second game, the “Little Professor” hit an inside-the-park home run and finished that game 4-5 with three RBI.  The Red Sox won the second game as well, bringing their current win streak to four games, and keeping them within distance...
