June 12, 1941 - The Yankees beat the White Sox 7-2 today in Chicago, as Yankees starter Spud Chandler improved to an impressive 7-0 on the season. Slugger Joe DiMaggio also stayed hot, going 3-5 and keeping his batting average above .400. In the day’s first game, the Red Sox outlasted the Browns in 12 innings to win 12-8. In that game, DiMaggio went a sizzling 5-6 with four RBI and hit for the cycle – the first and only cycle so far this season in the big leagues! Then, for an encore in the second game, the “Little Professor” hit an inside-the-park home run and finished that game 4-5 with three RBI.
