- The Yankees beat the White Sox 7-2 today in Chicago, as Yankees starter Spud Chandler improved to an impressive 7-0 on the season. Slugger Joe DiMaggio also stayed hot, going 3-5 and keeping his batting average above .400.
- Not to be outdone, Joe's little brother Dom had a day that ballplayers dream of today in St. Louis for a doubleheader. In the day’s first game, the Red Sox outlasted the Browns in 12 innings to win 12-8. In that game, DiMaggio went a sizzling 5-6 with four RBI and hit for the cycle – the first and only cycle so far this season in the big leagues! Then, for an encore in the second game, the “Little Professor” hit an inside-the-park home run and finished that game 4-5 with three RBI. The Red Sox won the second game as well, bringing their current win streak to four games, and keeping them within distance of the Yankees and Indians.

The Cincinnati Reds have been flying high for
the most of the season, but today in Boston they dropped their fifth straight
game. Braves left fielder Max West
blasted two home runs (giving him five on the years) and drove in four runs.
