June 9, 1941 -           In Brooklyn, the Dodgers pulled within a half game of the first place Reds by beating the Reds 9-3.   It started out promising for the Reds, as they scored three runs in the first inning thanks to two untimely Dodger errors, but from that point on it was all Dodgers.   Starter Hugh Casey went the distance, allowing only two hits and striking out six, while the offense was provided by Pete Reiser’s two triples and three RBI. Pete Reiser (Dodgers) -           Danny Litwhiler also had two triples today in Philadelphia, as the last-place Phillies took one from the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 8-3.  Litwhiler finished the day 3-4 with five RBI.
