-          Athletics centerfielder Sam Chapman hit his league-leading 11th home run of the year by blasting a grand slam off of White Sox starter Thornton Lee.  That was more than enough run support for Athletics starter Les McCrabb, who pitched a complete game shutout and allowed only four hits.

-          It took 16 innings to deiced today’s contest in Boston between the Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Ultimately, it was decided by a Gus Mancuso two-out double in the top of the 16th inning, give the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish.
