-          The Yankees kept pace with the Indians, staying three games back, after an offensive barrage and a stellar outing from starting pitcher Lefty Gomez.  Gomez went the distance, giving up one run on four hits, while the Yankees got home runs from Joe DiMaggio (#6), Johnny Sturm (#2), and Tommy Heinrich (two homers to give him 6 on the year).

-          In a battle of top flight NL teams, the Cincinnati Reds beat the Dodgers 7-2 today at Ebbets Field.  The play that put the game away was a Frank McCormick three-run home run in the top of the 8th inning.  With the win, Reds starter Bucky Walters moves to 8-1 on the season and the Reds now have a 1.5 game lead over the Cardinals and 2.5 over the Dodgers.
