It was a thrilling affair at Navin Field today, as the Philadelphia Athletics jumped out to what appeared to be an insurmountable 4-0 in the first three innings behind home runs from both Al Simmons and Jimmie Foxx.  The Tigers, however, refused to concede and roared back with 6 runs in the 5th inning to capture the lead.  It looked like the A's may be on the verge of blowing a lead for the second straight game, but their offense didn't let that happen.  Foxx homered for a second time in the top of the 7th and Joe Boley hit his first home run of the season later in the inning to give the A's a lead that they would never surrender.

With his big day, Jimmie Foxx has his second multi-homer game in three days, giving him 8 home runs on the season and putting him among the five AL leaders in both slugging percentage (.630) and OPS (1.034).  Considering the sluggish start that Foxx had to the season, this can only spell trouble for the rest of the American League.  Al Simmons' home run was his 10th of the year and he continues to lead the AL in home runs, RBI, slugging, and OPS.
