There were offensive explosions from both teams today, but ultimately, as has been the case for both teams of late, the A's came out on top and the Senators lost another one.  The Senators are 2-8 in their last 10 games and with today's loss they fall 4.5 games behind the Athletics.  The leaders today were, also as usual, Al Simmons and Jimmie Foxx.  Simmons further cemented his position as the best hitter in the American League right now, going 3-5, with a grand slam and knocking in 6 runs.  Not to be outdone, Jimmie Foxx blasted his 11th and 12th home runs of the season, going 4-4 with 4 RBI, 4 runs, and a walk.  Simmons and Foxx now sit as the AL home run leaders, with 13 and 12 home runs, respectively.

The game was also notable for an uncharacteristically short outing for Athletics ace Lefty Grove.  Grove, who has 6 complete games on the season, lasted only 2 innings and gave up 7 earned runs.  Grove has clearly been the best pitcher in baseball all season and while today was not his greatest performance, even with this outing he remains 8-0 with a 1.83 ERA.

The A's remain as hot as any team other than the Giants, going 8-2 in their last 10 games and moving a half game ahead of the Yankees.
