The day's theme of dominant starting pitchers continued at Wrigley Field, as Pirates starter Rip Swell completely shut down the Cubs to get the Pirates off to a winning start to the season.

  As you can see on the scoreboards, it was full slate of games today and there were some magnificent performances, particularly on the mound.  The Cubs-Pirates affair could make a strong case for Game of the Day, with the Pirates snagging a run in the bottom of the 8th on a Deb Garms RBI single to seal a one-run victory.  But as you will see below, we are going with a pitcher's duel in Boston for today's honors.
