-          Hank Greenberg homered for the second time in as many games to start the year, as the Tigers battered Indians’ starter Bob Feller.

-         Ted Williams, still not in the everyday lineup of the young season, hit his second pinch hit home run of the season in Boston’s drubbing of the winless Philadelphia Athletics.

-          Brooklyn Dodgers catcher Babe Phelps, in his first start of the season, blasted two home runs in Boston in the first game of a doubleheader.  The Dodgers needed every run to secure a 6-5 win and hand the Boston Braves their first loss of the season.

- In the second game of the doubleheader in Boston, Dodgers centerfield phenom Pete Reiser hit two triples and starter Whit Wyatt pitched a three-hit shutout.
