One look at these pitching lines will make clear why both of today's starting pitchers were deemed to have had Stellar Performances:

White Sox                  ip  h  r er  w  k    era

-----------------             --- -- -- -- -- --     ------

Ted LYONS (W 4-0) 9.0  7  0  0  0  2   0.59

Tigers                          ip  h  r er  w  k        era

-------------------            --- -- -- -- -- --        ------

Vic SORRELL (L 2-3) 9.1  3  2  2  5  2      5.52

It was a shame that anyone had to lose this game.  In a losing effort, Vic Sorrell went 9.1 innings and only gave up his two runs in the top of the 10th inning.  Ted Lyons, meanwhile, pitched a 9 hit shutout and only exited the game in the 10th when he was pinch hit for.  Lyons continues his campaign as the best pitcher in baseball this side of Lefty Grove.
