April 20, 1941 (Replay Baseball)

 


-          Bob Johnson and Frankie Hayes went for back-to-back homers off Yankees’ starter Red Ruffing in the bottom of the 7th inning in Washington.  The Senators blew this lead in the next inning, but a two-run walkoff homer from centerfielder Sam Chapman in the bottom of the 9th powered the Senators to their first win of the season, while also handing the Yankees their first loss.

-          Giants starter Harry Gumbert pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout at Ebbets Field to beat the Dodgers 1-0.
