Dolf Luque (CIN)

The Reds helped to continue the fall of the New York Giants from the top of the National League standings.  Behind a superlative performance by right-hander Dolf Luque, the Reds beat the Giants 5-0 today at the Polo Grounds.  Luque pitched a complete game shutout, allowing 7 hits and overcoming 3 errors made by his defenders.  Things certainly looked dicey in the 6th inning when Luque walked Bill Terry to load the bases with no outs. The Reds kept faith in their starter, however, leaving him in to get out of the jam without allowing a run.

With the loss the Giants are now 4-6 in their last 10 and, after leading the National League for most of the season, are now a half game out.
