Mel Ott (NYG)

In the second game of a doubleheader today in Boston, Mel Ott took care of the Giants at the plate while Bill Walker controlled the game from the mound (and the plate for that matter).  Ott, who has struggled at times to start the season, hit both his second and third home runs of the season and knocked in 3 runs.  Walker, meanwhile, was great pitching and hitting.  While he ultimately gave up 4 earned runs on the day, three of those came in the bottom of the 9th when the game was already decided and he was simply closing out a complete game.  He ended up throwing 8.2 innings with only one run given up prior to the bottom of the 9th.  At the same time, the unlikely Walker added his own home run to the Giants 9 run total.

With the win, the Giants have now won 6 straight and maintain a firm grasp on first place in the National League standings.
