Firpo Marberry (WSH)

Firpo Marberry was brilliant today, shutting down the vaunted Yankees offense to give the Senators a third straight victory, two of which have come at the expense of the Yankees.  Marberry dominated from start to finish, pitching a shutout while giving up only two hits and striking out five.  After leading the AL for most of the season, the Senators appeared to have been faltering but now seem to have somewhat righted the ship and sit 3.5 games behind the first place Athletics.  With today's performance Marberry moves to 4-2 on the season with a 4.09 ERA.

The Yankees are clearly struggling, having dropped three straight and being shut out in two of those losses.  New York is now 5-5 in their last 10 and have fallen to 2.5 games behind the Athletics.
