When Al Simmons stepped to the plate for the fourth time today at Shibe Park, he was a single away from hitting for the cycle...but Al had other plans. Rather than settling for the cycle, Simmons went ahead and blasted his second home run of the day (his second two-run homer of the game). The A's needed all of his offense today to hold onto a one-run win over the Indians and extend their American League lead to 4 games over the second place St. Louis Browns.
Simmons, meanwhile, remains the best hitter in the AL and seems poised to make a legitimate run at winning a Triple Crown - he leads the league in home runs and RBI and is hitting .366, which is good for fifth in the AL. He ended today 4-4 (going triple, double, home run, home run) and drove in 5 runs.
