April 22, 1949: Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians

The Indians moved to 3-1 on the year behind another magnificent starting pitching performance, this time from Gene Bearden.  Bearden pitched eight innings of 1-run baseball, striking out four along the way.  Thirdbaseman Mickey Vernon hit his first home run - a two-run shot - in the bottom of the 4th and that was enough run support for the win.  With the loss, the Tigers drop to 2-2.
