April 23, 1949: Boston Braves vs. New York Giants

Braves ace Warren Spahn lived up to his reputation today at the Polo Grounds, putting up an even better performance than he did on Opening Day.  Spahn pitched a complete game shutout, striking out six and walking only one.  The game's only run came off a Phil Masi sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th, but it was enough to get the Braves a 1-0 win.  The Braves move to 3-2 on the season while the Giants fall to 1-3.
