Wes Ferrell (Indians) It was a true pitcher's duel today in Cleveland, as both starters took shutouts into the 9th inning.  Indians starter Wes Ferrell pitched nine full innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five.  It also was his turn at-bat to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning, but he was pinch hit for by Bibb Falk - who proceeded to blast a pinch-hit walk-off homerun to seal a 1-0 victory for the Indians.  With the win, Cleveland moves to 3-3 on the year, while the White Sox fall to 2-2.

  As you can see on the scoreboards, it was full slate of games today and there were some magnificent performances, particularly on the mound.  The Cubs-Pirates affair could make a strong case for Game of the Day, with the Pirates snagging a run in the bottom of the 8th on a Deb Garms RBI single to seal a one-run victory.  But as you will see below, we are going with a pitcher's duel in Boston for today's honors.   Highlights of today's action: - Dodgers starter Kirby Higbe took a no-hitter into the 9 th inning in Brooklyn and was able to get the first batter in the inning.  He then gave up a bloop single, however, to break up the no-hit bid.  Regardless,  he won a 5-0 shutout of the Giants, striking out four and giving up no walks. Kirby Higbe (Dodgers) -  Game in Cincinnati between the Reds and the Cardinals is easily the game of the young season.   Both starters went nine innings – Reds’ starter Johnny Vander Meer walking four and striking out nine, while allowing one earned run; Cardinals’ starter Mort Cooper walked three, struck out six, and ultimately allowed two earned runs.   The Cardinals lead 1-0 in the bottom of the 9 th , with two outs and running on first, when pinch hitter Hank Sauer roped a double to tie the game.   The Cardinals came back and scored a run in the top of the 10 th , but the Reds came back again in the bottom of the inning fo...
