-          Yankees’ left fielder Charlie Keller hit two home runs today in the Yanks’ 6-0 drubbing of the White Sox.  Keller drove in five of the team’s six runs as they Yankees improved to a major league best 13-5.

-          Indians’ first baseman Hal Trosky hit his fifth home run of the season in dramatic fashion – a walk-off solo shot, that capped a three-run bottom of the 9th to secure Cleveland’s eight straight win.  They beat the Red Sox 7-6 in a classic.

-          The Philadelphia Phillies blew a lead in the top of the 9th but managed a walk-off, pinch-hit single by Hal Marnie to salvage a 5-4 win over the Cardinals.

Wes Ferrell (Indians) It was a true pitcher's duel today in Cleveland, as both starters took shutouts into the 9th inning.  Indians starter Wes Ferrell pitched nine full innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five.  It also was his turn at-bat to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning, but he was pinch hit for by Bibb Falk - who proceeded to blast a pinch-hit walk-off homerun to seal a 1-0 victory for the Indians.  With the win, Cleveland moves to 3-3 on the year, while the White Sox fall to 2-2.

  As you can see on the scoreboards, it was full slate of games today and there were some magnificent performances, particularly on the mound.  The Cubs-Pirates affair could make a strong case for Game of the Day, with the Pirates snagging a run in the bottom of the 8th on a Deb Garms RBI single to seal a one-run victory.  But as you will see below, we are going with a pitcher's duel in Boston for today's honors. Instant Classic: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees (April 25, 1930)

Bill Dickey (Yankees) Yankees starter George Pipgras appeared to be well on his way to a complete game victory, cruising into the 9th inning having allowed only one run and leading 3-1 but ran into trouble while trying to close things out.  He was ultimately replaced by Ed Wells, who in turn gave up a double to Red Sox pinch hitter Charlie Berry that tied the game.  This then lead to four innings of extra baseball in the Bronx, ended only in the bottom of the 13th inning when Yankees catcher Bill Dickey won the game on a sacrifice fly.  With the win, the Yankees remain on the heels of first place Philadelphia, with New York moving to 5-2 on the year and only a half game back.  The Red Sox, meanwhile, remain in the American League cellar at 1-8.
