-          The defending world champions are flexing their muscle, riding incredible starting pitching and timely hitting to drive toward the top of the National League standings.  The Reds have now won seven straight, besting the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 behind Johnny Vander Meer’s complete game 1-run performance.  Vander Meer struck out nine along the way and only surrendered the lone St. Louis run in the 9th inning.  Meanwhile, the Cardinals continue their slide as this makes four straight losses.

-          A classic took place at the Polo Grounds as Dodgers starter Hugh Casey went toe-to-toe with Giants legend Carl Hubbell.  Heading into the last inning, it looked as if Casey was going to get the best of it, holding a 2-1 lead.  But in the bottom of the 9th, Giants left fielder Jo-Jo Moore hit a solo home run to send it into extra innings.  Catcher Harry Danning then singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to get the Giants the win.  With the Brooklyn loss there is now a three-way tie atop the National League among the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Reds.
